Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg is backing legislation intended to boost federal support for Great Lakes research and conservation.
Walberg and seven other lawmakers introduced the Regional Great Lakes Partnership Act last week.
The bill would designate the Great Lakes Commission as the region’s official partnership within a NOAA funding program.
Walberg says that would help ensure the Great Lakes region receives a fair share of available federal funding.
