Indiana has resumed decisions on some disability Medicaid waiver applications after pausing the process for a review.
The Family and Social Services Administration temporarily stopped making certain determinations in late August while examining how case managers were using a newer assessment system known as interRAI.
The waivers can help people with disabilities remain in their homes instead of moving into institutional care.
Advocates had raised concerns after denials increased under the new process. State officials say the pause was prompted by differences in how assessments were being administered, not by a problem with the tool itself.
The Arc of Indiana says some applicants with pending denials will receive new assessments and should closely watch appeal deadlines.
