A person was burned while escaping a house fire on South Bend’s west side early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters found flames and smoke shooting out of the second floor of a home in the 1000 block of West LaSalle Court just after 4:45 a.m., the South Bend Fire Department said.

Everyone inside was able to escape the fire, but a male occupant suffered small burns on his face, chest, back and left foot. He was taken to Memorial Hospital.

Investigators believe the fire started in a second floor bedroom. The fire is still being investigated.
