Indiana State Police K-9, Zane, has been retired after nearly eight years of service working the road.

Trooper Ryan McNamara and his partner, Zane, have patrolled the Bremen District together since December 2008, according to a news release from Indiana State Police.

Over their career McNamara and Zane have been responsible for removing pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, crack, ecstasy and heroin off the streets. Together, they conducted 104 tracks and were involved in 559 building, evidence and vehicle searches, according to the news release.

McNamara said he is thankful that Zane will spend his retirement years with him and his family.

Established in the fall of 2005, the Indiana State Police Patrol K-9 program currently has 40 Patrol K-9’s. The K-9’s participate in over thirty-five hundred details annually from vehicle searches, building searches, tracks, and assisting other agencies to public appearances.
