SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A board representing northern Indiana is recommending the state spend $14.6 million for housing developments, $9 million for an aquatic center in Elkhart and $3.5 million to fix the facade of a former Studebaker auto assembly plant that faces downtown South Bend.

The Board of the Regional Development Authority for the South Bend-Elkhart region on Tuesday recommended projects totaling $38.6 million from the $42 million grant available from the state. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. still must approve the spending.

The board also recommended spending $5 million from the Regional Cities Initiative to revamp riverfront trails and parks in South Bend, $2 million for an aquatic center in Plymouth and $1.8 million to renovate the Goshen Theater.
