Gas prices in the South Bend area are expected to rise about 20 cents over the next 24 hours, GasBuddy said.

The gas price-tracking website issued a spike alert Wednesday morning, Aug. 10. Gas prices ranged from $1.84 to $1.98 in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties at about 11:30 a.m. GasBuddy predicted prices to land at $2.19 per gallon in parts of Indiana and $2.29 per gallon in northwest Indiana.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan predicted Wednesday that gas prices would rise around the country over the next week while refineries scaled back production.
