The driver of a semi escaped injury after jumping from his rig just before it was hit by a train.

It happened around 3:15 p..m. on Friday, Aug. 19 at 6th and Logan in Mishawaka.

The semi driver was on the tracks when the gates came down, according to Mishawaka Police.

The semi driver was not able to back up because of traffic, according to our reporting partners at ABC 57.

The front of the semi was still on the tracks when the train came through, but the driver jumped out before the crash.

The crash caused diesel fuel to spill onto the road, ABC 57 reported.

Logan was shut down at 6th Street for hours as the cleanup and investigation continued.
