A LaPorte man behind the wheel of a semi was killed when the tractor-trailer overturned.

The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. of Friday, Aug. 26 on westbound I-80/94 near Hammond.

After hitting the second vehicle, the semi went off the road to the north, over turning on the grassy embankment. Part of the load of corn seed was was lost.

Northern was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.

At least four people who were in the other cars that were hit were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All lanes reopened to traffic just after 7 a.m.
