Second arrest made in 2013 murder of Devonte Patrick

After nearly three years, a second arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Devonte Patrick of Elkhart. It was back in December of 2013 when Patrick was found in a vehicle near Prairie Street and Indiana Avenue in Elkhart after he had been shot and left for dead during an alleged drug robbery.

The Elkhart Police Department and the United States Marshal’s Service have been working in conjunction with each other, and other law enforcement agencies in Northwestern Indiana, Illinois and Minnesota, in attempts to apprehend Antonio Walters, according to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office.

Walters was believed to have been using an alias name and other identifying information to elude capture, the prosecutor’s office stated.

On Friday, Sept. 9, Walters was arrested in Minnesota on an outstanding warrant.

Walters’ co-defendant, Thomas Harper, pleaded guilty to murder in January and was sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Extradition proceedings for Walters will be held in Minnesota.

Upon his return to Indiana, the case will proceed in the Elkhart Circuit Court.
