INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Eric Holcomb says he believes most Indiana residents have moved on from the debate over the state’s religious objections law and whether to expand state civil rights laws to include sexual orientation.

Holcomb said in weekend interviews that the state has “gotten through” the national uproar over the law signed last year by Gov. Mike Pence. Opponents maintained it would’ve sanctioned discrimination against gay and lesbianss before GOP legislators approved revisions.

Holcomb tells The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin he believes the current law is working. He tells WXIN-TV he isn’t focused on the LGBT rights issue and that voters rarely bring it up.

Democratic candidate John Gregg calls for the state to extend full LGBT civil rights protections. Gregg’s spokesman says the rights issue remains a top worry of Indiana businesses.
