Students expelled or suspended from Goshen middle and elementary schools may soon have another option to continue their education.

Assistant superintendent of secondary education Angela Piazza spoke at Monday night’s Goshen school board meeting. She believes expelled or suspended students may lose progress in the classroom, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Supplemental curriculum company Edmentum offers a system called PLATO – Programmed Logic for Automatic Teaching Operations. The computer-based educational training network offers expelled and suspended students the opportunity to keep learning. It’s already in use in school classrooms.

The PLATO system is also used for home-schooling. The Goshen School Corporation would still be responsible for cultivating student success.
