Benton Harbor schools board president Sharon James resigns

Tension from this summer has brought about a change at Benton Harbor Area Schools, and the district is now looking for a new school board president.

Sharon James resigned Monday in an email to superintendent Dr. Shelly Walker.

James hadn’t attended a regular board meeting since June, when she yelled at board member Lisa Gulley in the parking lot after a meeting. Soon after, James took a leave-of-absence.

No official reason was given for the resignation. Dr. Walker calls this a great opportunity for the community as the schools move forward.
