Record cold air hits South Bend, breaking 33 year mark

It’s never been this cold in South Bend on this date in history.

Early Monday morning, the temperature dropped to -10 degrees in South Bend, and that was good enough to surpass the -9 degree mark set in 1983.

The good news is that temperatures are expected to warm up the rest of the week. However, there’s still precautions being taken locally. For instance, the South Shore Line is busing passengers between South Bend and Michigan City.

Also, a warming center in South Bend is staying open for those who need it.
