A shoplifting charge was only the start of an Elkhart man’s problems Monday.

Bryan Alwine, 47, was also arrested by Elkhart police on a December 2015 warrant for voyeurism using a camera, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Alwine is accused of leaving a black shoebox in a bathroom closet of a home where two women lived. Inside the box contained a camera and wires, according to court documents.

He lived in the basement below and when one of the women told deputies that, when she removed the shoebox, she heard wires being pulled from below.

Alwine later told deputies that he put the camera there to make sure the women weren’t stealing from him. He’s been booked into the Elkhart County Correctional Facility on $16,000 bail.
