Michiana came together and helped the Salvation Army again this year for the holidays, but the work is far from over.

The generosity of the community helped thousands of families in need have a special Christmas morning. But despite the donations, there is still a great need for help, according to ABC 57.

The Salvation Army raised more than $130,000 but landed more than $27,000 short of their goal. 970 families with about 2,000 children were still taken care of throughout St. Joseph County with food, gifts and toys.

The Kroc Center is still receiving donations in the mail that are going toward the 154 thousand dollar goal. A lot of the funding is used to help families year-round.
