A guilty plea could be coming in a case where a pregnant Elkhart woman was stabbed to death in August.

31-year-old Israel Ordonez Calixto stated in court Thursday that he’s negotiating a plea deal with the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office and may reach a deal before his Feb. 19 trial date, according to the Elkhart Truth.

A court appearance has now been set for Jan. 19. By then, a plea deal may be ready to present to the judge.

Calixto is facing murder and feticide charges following the Aug. 12 death of Savanna Best. Best was found wrapped up in a blanket in the apartment she shared at Old Farm Apartments on Mishawaka Rd. Calixto went to the northeast U.S. for a few days, according to court documents.

Calixto reportedly admitted to a friend during the trip that he killed Best, who was pregnant at the time. He’s facing 45-65 years in prison for the murder charge, along with three to six years in prison for the feticide charge.
