Police in Cass County are investigating a deadly crash that happened Wednesday night near Barron Lake Road and Cook Street in Howard Township.

Police say 29 year-old Chad Pond of Niles was speeding when he attempted to pass another vehicle and struck it. He lost control of his car and went off the road. The driver of the other car was not injured but Pond was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says he was wearing a seatbelt and it isn’t yet known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
