The recycling rate is about to go up in St. Joseph County, and South Bend may be ready to pull out of the program altogether.

The Solid Waste Management District just approved a raise to 40 dollars per year for curbside recycling, according to the South Bend Tribune.

South Bend Common Council members call the jump “too much of a burden for people living in the city,” and are considering leaving the recycling district over it.

Randy Przybysz, the Executive Director of the recycling district, says the fees have not gone up in 19 years, and the price hike was long overdue.
