One of two controversial county ordinances being discussed in St. Joseph County has passed.
After a unanimous vote Tuesday morning, St. Joe County has a Human Rights Ordinance. The commissioners passed the measure as they vetoed a Responsible Bidder Ordinance by a vote of 2 to 1.
Both measures had been passed by the County Council last week.
The Human Rights Ordinance offers legal protections to the LGBTQ community and other underrepresented groups.
The Responsible Bidder Ordinance would have given companies in St. Joe County preferential treatment when bidding on public projects. That ordinance now goes back to the County Council.

John Zimney wrote “The Human Rights Ordinance offers legal protections to the LGBTQ community and other underrepresented groups.” The presidential election was a statement by the majority that we are the underrepresented group. All these new laws do is take our rights away from us to give more to very small OVER REPRESENTED groups.
