South Bend is looking to make it tougher for Superman to leap buildings near the East Bank in a single bound.
Up, not out, is what the city’s planning commission is looking for. The South Bend Tribune reports that members approved a change to the height restrictions by a 9 to 1 vote.
Buildings in the Commerce Center project were being held to under 60 feet by the previous set of rules. New recommendations for the area between the East Bank and the St. Joe River will permit heights of up to 150 feet.
The South Bend Common Council will vote during their meeting on Monday, Feb. 27, whether or not to pass the height restriction.
If approved, developer Dave Matthews and the Commerce Center project can continue with the nine story plan.
If it’s rejected, Matthews will have to come up with a new plan.
