A longtime Goshen business suffered heavy fire damage made worse by Wednesday’s gusty winds.

In fact, the flames inside Miller Door & Trim were so intense, it forced firefighters back, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Firefighters instead had to attack the fire from the outside with aerial trucks and large diameter hoses. However, another challenge firefighters had to come was low water pressure in that area of Goshen. This forced firefighters to ask for water tanker trucks to come to the scene.

Winds of 30 to 60 mph helped fuel the fire, which destroyed the front side of the business. Winds also may have carried embers from the fire to a field near the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds, starting a fire there that kept firefighters busy as well.

Miller Door & Trim has been in business since 1965, making custom wooden doors and moldings, along with specialty hardware.
