South Bend to buy land along Mishawaka Ave. for new fire station

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced the planned acquisition of land on Mishawaka Avenue.

The land would be used for the construction of a new Fire Station #9, according to the South Bend Tribune.

City leaders say, once it’s built, the new station will improve the quality of fire and emergency medical services for the neighborhood. The new station will also be able to host ambulance and river rescue equipment that the old station #9 could not.

Agreements with the current landowners are set to go before the Board of Public Works on Tuesday.
