A man that was shot during Wednesday’s police-involved shooting has been identified as a 68-year-old Goshen man.
Indiana State Police investigators are also calling him a bystander who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, according to a press release.
The elderly man was shot in the back of his shoulder at the Double D Bar and Grill. He first went to Goshen Health Hospital, but later needed to be taken to Parkview Regional in Fort Wayne. His condition is stable. It remains unclear whether police or the suspect accidentally shot him.
An autopsy on the suspect that was shot and killed by officers is being done in Kalamazoo Thursday. Officers only recently were able to positively identify him and are in the process of contacting his family. As for a motive, officers still aren’t sure.
“At this point in the investigation we don’t have a clear motive for the suspect’s actions yesterday,” stated state police Lead Detective Lourdes Lemler. Several witnesses have been interviewed.
The state police is asking anyone that may have been approached by the suspect or may have information about the shooting to contact the Bremen Post at 574-546-4900.
The names of the three Goshen Police officers involved will be released Friday afternoon.
