Goshen police chase ends with shots fired, one dead

One person is dead, another is hurt after a police chase that started with shots fired and ended with more shots fired.

Goshen Police officers responded to a shots report in the area of Lincolnway East and Kercher Road. That’s when a pursuit along nearby streets started, according to a press release from the Goshen Police Department.

Preliminary reports say that the suspect was firing shots at a gas station while trying to carjack vehicles. Then, the suspect went to an intersection, started harassing a woman, then fired at least one shot from a shotgun.

Police then pursued the suspect to Double D’s, where he was shot and killed by officers.

Another person at the bar was hit by a stray bullet, though it’s unclear whether the shot came from police or the suspect. That person has been taken to Goshen Hospital for treatment.

Goshen police posted on Facebook that there is no further threat to the public.

In the press release, Goshen officers say there were “multiple locations at which gunfire occurred” as the incident went on.

Indiana State Police investigators are still expected to be at the scene of both the gas station and restaurant for some time. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave as part of department policy.

This is a developing story.
