If you’re looking forward to the grand opening of the Jesús Latin Grill in Mishawaka, you have more waiting to do.
Construction was supposed to begin in June at the century-old Carnegie Library on North Hill Street in Mishawaka, but potential changes to the plan for the restaurant have contributed to the delay, according to the South Bend Tribune.
That’s according to owner George Pesek, who told the Tribune that he finally has a building permit, but he’s also dealing with a lack of labor right now. Most contractors are booked at the moment in the area as the warmer weather brings a lot of projects.
Pesek, who also owns Corndance Tavern and Evil Czech Brewery in Mishawaka, will be renovating the century-old Carnegie Library to build the Jesús Latin Grill.
He’s hoping to be able to open it next spring.

In latin cultures, Jesus is a common first name. I get that. Elsewhere it is avoided out of respect. Both views are okay with me. I’m just wondering why a man named George Pesek (possibly not Latino?) wants to name his new restaurant Jesus. As owner of Corndace and The Evil Czech, Mr. Pesek has shown a penchant for clever branding. Does he feel he is being clever now? I hope not. I truly hope he is being overly pious. But I would advise him that to many, the naming of this grill may seem flippant, no matter how religiously our local reporters pronounce it “Hey-SOOS.” (See what I did there?)
