City Council members in Goshen have tabled the vote on a proposal to lease land for an array of over 1,000 solar panels.

The vote regards the potential land lease of nearly one and a quarter acres southeast of the water treatment plant to Solscient Energy, according to the Elkhart Truth.

This would result in a 322-kilowatt ground-mounted solar array that would be built and owned by Solscient.

Mayor Jeremy Stutsman calls the project one of his priorities, citing the need for more green energy in Goshen. The city is hoping to gain recognition as a solar-friendly community under a U.S. Department of Energy program that requires it to streamline the process for installing solar systems.
