A South Bend police officer is being credited for saving a child from drowning in the St. Joseph River.
It happened on Friday, June 30, in the river near the Riverlights, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.
Officer Reid Spitaels told ABC 57 when he got to the scene, he saw the child bobbing up and down in the water, heading toward the Riverlights waterfalls.
He then dove into the water, fully clothed, and pulled the boy to the shore.
The child was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment, but is expected to be fine, ABC 57 reported.
