Body pulled from St. Joseph River in Michigan identified as missing Benton Harbor man

Almost three weeks after he was pulled from the water, a body found in St. Joseph has been identified.

The Michigan State Police Lab had to help both the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor Public Safety Departments identify Willie Brand as the man who was found in the St. Joseph River on June 17.

Brand was actually reported missing over a month before on May 10, meaning he may have been in the water for over a month.

An autopsy was performed two days after he was found, but it was only when DNA results came back that conclusively determined it was Brand.

There are no signs of foul play, according to officers, and the coroner’s office has determined he died due to drowning.
