A student at Three Rivers High School died Wednesday while swimming in the St. Joseph River.

Three Rivers police say 16-year-old Marco David Chapman was swept away by the current at about 1:30 p.m. while swimming just south of where the three rivers meet in the city.

ABC 57 is reporting that both the St. Joseph County Dive Team and the St. Joseph County Marine Patrol searched the river for three hours before locating Chapman’s body.

Officers will lend support for students who knew him at Three Rivers High School.
