MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) — The parents of a 5-year-old northern Indiana girl killed by a hit-and-run driver are pleading with the motorist to surrender to authorities.

Delaney Klewer died Tuesday after being struck by a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle in Michigan City. Her parents, Matthew Klewer and Gail Biela, urged the driver Wednesday to come forward and for anyone who knows who struck their child to contact police.

Matthew Klewer tells the South Bend Tribune his message to the driver is to “just turn yourself in” and take responsibility. He says his daughter was “a very beautiful girl.”

Relatives says Delaney and her 8-year-old sister were returning home from a park two blocks from their home when the 5-year-old was struck by the SUV along a street with a posted 20 mph speed limit.
