More J-turns are among Next Level Roads project plans

You may know them as “Michigan turns.” You may know them as “J-turns”. You may even know them as annoying or helpful, depending on your point of view.

Like them or not, J-turns are coming to Indiana over the next few years as part of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s Next Level roads project.

The best way to explain them is it allows drivers to make a right, then turn back around 180 degrees to head left instead of crossing fast-moving traffic all at once.

St. Joseph County Assistant Police Chief Bill Thompson told ABC 57 that the turns take a bit of getting used to, and they may come with growing pains similar to Smart Streets improvements.

The Next Level Roads projects start in 2018. It’s likely that J-turns will come to St. Joseph County-patrolled roads.
