A shooting shortly before midnight Sunday night sent a person to the hospital on South Bend’s west side.

Police say there were reports of shots as a car went by near the intersection of Jefferson Boulveard and Illinois Street. That car then crashed into a tree and the occupants ran from the scene.

Some people living nearby told police they heard as many as 30 gunshots. No arrests have yet been made. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
