A suspect in the death of a Niles woman, Sunday, is the husband of the victim.

John Benton Lewis, the husband of Carla Jean Lewis, was being held in the Berrien County Jail on a marijuana charge. Now, he’s facing a murder charge stemming from the incident at their home in the 1400 block of Lawndale Avenue in Niles Township.

Lewis is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon, and “possible” other suspects remain at large, including two heavyset black men that were reported to be at the house at the time.

Meantime, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public in finding the victim’s vehicle: A 2008 Mazda CX-9 with a Michigan license plate: C-M-Y-3-7-2-1.
