Habitat for Humanity has started work on building some new homes in Mishawaka.

Work has started on building 20 affordable Habitat for Humanity homes on Byrkit Street north of Jefferson Avenue. Contractors tell the South Bend Tribune that they hope to finish foundation and detatched garage work before the first snow of the season.

The homes will occupy a total of nine acres. Not only is Habitat for Humanity building homes, they’re building streets. Edgar Street will extend to Byrkit and link with Carter Court, named for former U.S. President and Habitat for Humanity ambassador Jimmy Carter.

95 applications for the 20 homes have already been submitted, but the chapter says they’re still taking applications. To apply, click this link, then click on “own a home”.
