Is former Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire closer to taking the starting job in Florida?

It wouldn’t be Notre Dame football unless we were talking about quarterbacks, and two quarterbacks are making sports news after last weekend.

Former Notre Dame Quarterback Malik Zaire may be getting close to what he wished for when he transferred to Florida. Felipe Franks was pulled in the Gators’ season opener and was replaced with Zaire. Franks completed 5 of 9 passes for 75 yards in a 33-17 loss to 11th-ranked Michigan in Arlington, Texas.

However, Zaire didn’t set the world on fire himself, completing 9 of 17 passes for 106 yards and going scoreless in the second half. Franks has already been announced as the Week 2 starter.

Meanwhile, in other Notre Dame football news, Georgia Quarterback Jacob Eason will not play in the Bulldogs’ game at Notre Dame this Saturday. Eason suffered a sprained left knee in last week’s win over Appalachian State. Coach Kirby Smart says Eason’s status is “week to week.”
