Penn High School, Schmucker Middle School, Bittersweet Elementary School and Pennway were placed on external lockdown on Monday, Oct. 2.

The lockdown, which was initiated around 8:20 a.m. was due to an incident  off of school property, according to a statement released by the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation.

As extra precaution, police were on scene, though none of the schools were threatened, according to the statement.

The lockdown was lifted at 9 a.m.

During an external lockdown, all school exterior doors are locked. Parents and other external visitors are not allowed to enter the building until officials determine it’s safe to do so.
