Two arrests made in connection to deadly shooting at Knights Inn motel in South Bend

Two arrests have been made after a man was shot to death at the Knights Inn motel on Lincolnway West in South Bend.

Officers with the South Bend Police department were called to the hotel on the report of shots fired around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The victim, identified as Everett Lawrence Harper, 65, of South Bend, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside one of the rooms.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was called to investigate, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57 News.

Two possible suspects who were seen leaving the motel after the shots were fired.

On Sunday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office announced an arrest warrant was issued for Antoine Jefferson, 30. He was placed under arrest on Sunday and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail, charged with murder and ordered held without bond, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jefferson is expected to appear in court for his arraignment on Monday afternoon.

A second individual, Adrian Evans, 31, was arrested on Saturday night in connection with the investigation and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on suspicion of assisting a criminal.

Five people, including the victim were in the motel room at the time of the shooting, according to a police report.

The shooting stemmed from a verbal argument in which Jefferson pulled out a handgun, then ordered everyone to be quiet. Harper said something and Jefferson fired multiple times, killing Harper, according to one of the people in the room who was interviewed by police.
