Final arguments in the embezzlement case of a former Benton Harbor Schools superintendent will take place Thursday morning.

Dr. Leonard Seawood is charged with embezzlement and obtaining money via false pretenses.

He’s accused of stealing around $45,000 in phony vacation time funds during his five-year stint as superintendent. He did this by taking vacation time when he actually worked so he could maximize vacation payouts and not lose them.

The prosecution started Tuesday afternoon and rested shortly before noon Wednesday. The defense took over and called their witnesses, including Dr. Seawood himself.

Final arguments are set for 9 a.m. Thursday.
