Man found dead in burning LaPorte home

A fire claimed a man’s life in LaPorte early Thursday morning.

It happened at a home on Maple Drive, located on Pine Lake in the city of LaPorte, at about 7 a.m. CT. ABC 57 reports a neighbor saw smoke coming from the home and called 911.

Firefighters battled flames and heavy smoke, but when they entered the home, they found an adult man lying about 10 feet from the door. He was pulled from the home and CPR was attempted, but he could not be revived.

One side of the home was heavily damaged by fire and firefighters could also be seen in photos shooting water into the second floor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
