PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) — A circular, concrete observation deck overlooking Lake Michigan in northwestern Indiana has collapsed following recent erosion along the lakeshore.

No injuries were reported in the collapse at the Portage Riverwalk and Lakefront. The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports the park has been suffering from the effects of erosion the past few years and recent erosion has been made worse by high waves and strong winds.

Portage Park Superintendent Jenny Orsburn says she was informed of the collapse Sunday night. The area was roped off with caution tape and barriers.

The park is owned by the National Park Service and managed by the Portage Park Department. Orsburn says she plans to meet with an Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Superintendent officials this week to assess the damage and determine what to do next.
