Elkhart woman and baby die following crash near Decatur, Michigan

Update: WSBT reports Malaga’s child has also died.

An Elkhart woman has died after a two-vehicle crash in Decatur, Michigan that also has her 2-month-old son fighting for his life.

The crash happened on M-51 near 89th Avenue in southern Van Buren County at around 9 p.m. Friday. A Jeep being driven by a 42-year-old Battle Creek woman overshot a curve and hit a car being driven by 25-year-old Daria Malaga in the other lane head-on.

Malaga died at the scene. Her identity was released to the public Sunday.

Her 2-month-old son was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died. The Battle Creek woman is reportedly in good condition.
