Three people, including an infant, died in a wrong-way crash on the Indiana Toll Road.

The collision happened around 7:30 Sunday night about a mile east of the Mishawaka exit, when 32-year-old Chintan Patel began traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

His vehicle struck an SUV that was passing a semi, causing a chain reaction with at two other vehicles.

Five people from Painesville, Ohio were in the SUV that Patel hit. 42-year-old Denita Rice, 12-year-old Makayla Lanier, and 1-year-old Bryson Rice died of their injuries. Both Rices died at the scene.

Two others in the vehicle, a 46-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries, with the girl flown to Riley Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Patel was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being extricated from his vehicle. He died Monday morning.

Indiana State Police say alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.

The toll road was closed for several hours as a result of the crash and investigation.

PLEASE PROOFREAD!!
There are stories everyday that have words missing, in the wrong order, etc.
I remember when finding a mistake was next to impossible. Now it’s a habit. They jump right off the page now. No need to try.
