South Bend woman found asleep at wheel facing multiple drug charges

A welfare check leads to a South Bend woman being arrested on the Indiana Toll Road Friday.

An Indiana State Trooper discovered a grey car that was partially blocking traffic while parked in an area not designated for parking Friday morning at about 5:20 a.m. at the eastbound service plaza near Elkhart.

The driver, 37-year-old Anne Huston of South Bend, was found asleep at the wheel.

Almost immediately, the officer suspected she was under the influence and found multiple bags of suspected meth, several pill containers with at least 50 unidentified pills, a glass bottle containing suspected marijuana, and other drug-related items.

Huston was ultimately transported to the Elkhart County Jail and arrested on preliminary charges of Dealing Methamphetamine, Level 2 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 5 Felony, Possession of a Legend Drug, Level 6 Felony, Operating While Intoxicated, Class A-Misdemeanor, Possession of Marijuana, Class B-Misdemeanor, and Possession of Paraphernalia, Class C-Misdemeanor.
