A former Mishawaka High School student is in jail in North Carolina after a police-involved shooting at a Walmart.
26-year-old Tyler Carrico was arrested Sunday night after he reportedly refused to leave the store. He then reportedly tried to flee when officers were checking him for warrants.
WNDU reports Carrico was tackled and had a gun pointed to his head by an officer. He then reportedly tried to grab the gun, causing it to go off and hit the officer in the hand.
Police say he tried fleeing again, but was eventually cornered and taken in after a scuffle.
The wounded officer is expected to recover.
Carrico is facing multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer and injury to personal property.
No customers or staff were hurt.
