City to test South Bend school zone flashing lights

The City of South Bend’s Bureau of Traffic & Lighting will activate 28 school zone flashers on Monday, Aug. 13, and Tuesday, Aug. 14, to prepare drivers for the first day of school.

City crews want to make sure flashers are working properly in case any repairs need to be made.

Even if school is not in session, drivers must obey the school zone speed limit and all applicable traffic laws when flashers are blinking. If drivers see a flasher not working properly, they should report it to 311.

The tests will correspond with the regular school zone schedules, which are 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. and 2:45 to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In addition, the flashers on South Eddy Street near School Field will run every Friday from Aug. 17 to Oct. 12 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m.

The first day for students in South Bend Schools is Thursday, Aug. 16.
