It’s a guilty verdict against the North Liberty man accused of shooting a dog in Lakeville.

John Hanley, 53, claimed he acted in self-defense, but the prosecutor deemed otherwise, charging him with criminal recklessness and mischief and the attempted killing of a domestic.

It was back in January when the German Shepherd escaped from a leash and was was allegedly shot “execution-style” by Hanley, who reportedly had been trying to help capture the dog with the owner, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Hanley will be sentenced on September 21.
