There is a new reminder that the former Chase Tower in downtown South Bend has been renamed the Liberty Tower. The reminder is in the form of a new sign at the top of the city’s tallest building.

The sign was installed recently and is illuminated at night.

The 25-story downtown building has been undergoing an extensive renovation since New York-based Washington Square Realty took it over in 2014 after years of financial troubles.

The new Aloft hotel opened last year. Construction is underway on about 90 new apartments in what was the tower’s office space. Those could open by late this year, followed by renovation of ground-floor retail space.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
