Indiana is reporting its fourth consecutive year of improvement in student attendance. State education data show the chronic absenteeism rate fell to 14.9 percent during the 2025-2026 school year, down 1.8 percentage points from the previous year.
Chronic absenteeism means missing at least 10 percent of the school year, whether absences are excused or unexcused. Despite the statewide progress, high school students continue to face the greatest challenges, with 30 percent of seniors classified as chronically absent.
Governor Mike Braun says better attendance helps students learn and prepare for their futures. State officials say attendance has improved across nearly every student group since 2022.
