Two arrests made in connection with deadly hit-and-run on Brick Road

Two people have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision in which a bicyclist was struck and killed.

The collision happened on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the area of Brick and Mayflower Roads in South Bend.

Officers with the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team arrested Carlos Williams, 22, and Ashlee Nicely, 19.

Williams was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary suspicion of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. Nicely, 19, was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary suspicion of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and
Assisting a Criminal.

The victim, Ishayaa Diya, 61, was struck from behind by a vehicle which then took off, according to investigators.

He died at the scene.

On Friday, Oct. 12, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor announced formal charges:

Carlos Williams, 22, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a Level 5 Felony. He was ordered held until his initial bail hearing and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail. His initial bail hearing and arraignment are scheduled for Monday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m. 

Ashlee Nicely, 19, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a Level 5 Felony; she was charged under the Aiding, Inducing, or Causing portion of the statute as Mr. Williams was the alleged driver and she aided him. She is also charged with Assisting a Criminal, a Level 6 Felony. She was ordered held until her initial bail hearing and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail. Her initial bail hearing and arraignment are scheduled for Monday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m.
