Charges have been filed against the suspect in a deadly shooting in the parking lot of the University of Notre Dame Boathouse off Northside Blvd. in South Bend.

Elbert Briggs, 24, was charged with murder.

It was back in June when South Bend Police found the body of Eric Phillips in the boathouse parking lot.

Investigators centered in on Briggs as their suspect after reviewing surveillance video and obtaining warrants to exam Facebook accounts belonging to Phillips and a woman he was meeting at the boathouse.

It was on woman’s Facebook page where investigators saw a photo of the suspect that matched a man they saw in the surveillance video. They also saw an image of a gun similar to the one used in Phillips’ death.

Briggs is currently in custody in Berrien County on an unrelated matter.
